February 2010

Can we say SNOW? Oh boy. February was filled, literally and physically, with snow fun for us… or should I say for the kids.   The snow that started falling the last days of January started packing on, more and more… before too long we were pounded with snow. Jeramis and the kids got a lot of time off both work and school.
We were rather fascinated with watching the snow accumulate and once it did finally stop falling we had a great time going out in it.  I actually enjoy shoveling (for the most part) so I enjoyed getting outside, spending a couple hours after each dumping of snow, clearing the walkways and also the road and walks around the cars.  I’ll admit that after the pounding we got that even I was a little ‘snowed’ out though!
Jasper would get mad when we’d go outside in the snow so one of us would go over to the window and throw snowballs at it so he could ‘catch’ them.  That kept him relatively happy.

Jasper was pretty silly this month with his different faces and actions. He plays peek-a-boo and he likes to look at you from between his legs.  This makes him laugh (and you laugh too!)

He also has discovered how to get into my cupboards and drawers in the kitchen.

My nephew, Tristan, celebrated his birthday this month. We went over to their house to share in the fun. I helped Rebecca put the cake together.  Tristan wanted a Power Ranger’s party with Power Ranger Motorcycles for the cake.
That’s a new cake concept for me so we had to stretch our creative juices to make it work.  I think it turned out pretty good.  While we put the cake together Josh helped Jordan craft the ‘perfect’ Pinewood derby car.  Jordan really enjoyed that.  After finishing the car, opening presents and eating cake we went over to Chuck-e-Cheese for games and fun. The kids really had a great time and I enjoyed being able to be apart of the celebrations. (Also enjoyed seeing Josh and Rebecca, of course!)  This is the first time in over 9 years that I’ve had family living close enough to celebrate together.
February is also one of my favorite times of the year because it is Girl Scout COOKIE Time!  Since this is Jade’s first year in the program she was very excited to do the cookie sale.  She had a lot of fun.  I, of course, stocked up on Thin Mints and Samoas.  Jade has been really into "style" lately. She layers her clothes, matches things up, puts together some pretty "Jade-a-licious" outfits... It makes me grin because I feel like she shares a bit of my wild-for-clothes spirit.   (yes those are leg warmers she is wearing... she loves them! (and armbands too)  The kids also like to play Wii. With all the snow I was really glad we had something to keep them moving :)

Jordan had his Pinewood Derby race mid-month. It was a lot of fun for him. His car did pretty well and Jeramis was able to drive home for it – a super little surprise for Jordan.  At the end of the month I went into DC with Rebecca, Josh and Tristan to take some birthday photos for Tristan.  Of course there was still some snow around since February was dominated by the white stuff! One thing that was really nice was that the Lincoln Monument was empty! I’ve NEVER seen it empty! So it was cool to get a few pictures without the crowds.

The last big thing we had in February was Jordan’s honor’s band performance.  The entire group did a great job.

Before the month ended I began to realize that Jasper has decided that my sanity is truly not that important... especially when he demonstrated to me that my 'safety' features for the home are simply not going to cut it much longer...
That was it for February! With all the snow we were really stuck at home a lot.  So, hopefully I can get March and April’s updates here soon!
