May 2010
May has been filled with great weather. Jasper has really started to become a mischief-maker. If he can get into it, he does. Jordan had to complete some camping requirements to earn his Arrow of Light so we had him camp out in the back yard complete with tent and firepit.
For Mother’s Day I was treated to some delicious goodies and a nice day with the family. We also went out to “linner” at my favorite Japanese Steakhouse. It was really nice. I wanted some pictures of me with the kids. Jasper, on the other hand, didn’t want to hold still. We were lucky to get one good one. Ah, me.
I was also treated to a very nice visit from my friends Karen and Dennis. They were stopping in DC during their cross the country trip. (They’ve got the coolest idea!) A little back-story – I met Karen and Dennis in Japan when we were stationed there. Karen and I attended our Japanese language class together for the entire 3 years. It was quite a great time and seeing them again was fantastic. We picked up our friendship right where it left off – as if no time had past. During a walk around DC Karen gave me a giggle when she pointed out this set of words… taken out of context it is quite a funny, don't you think?! Jasper’s hair is really curling now. He is also fascinated with cameras – or should I say with seeing himself on camera! His favorite thing to do now is unload my Tupperware and Spatula drawers. He runs around the house with his ‘finds’ and plays with them.
He also loves to try to catch the dust particles he sees inside the sunbeams coming in the windows. Jasper is also very into going to the park. I take him often and let him run wild! He goes over the safety gate and says, "Bye-bye" when he wants to go. Jade had a garden party for her Girl Scout troop. It was really fun for all of us. She earned the last of her daisy petals and she was so excited to get them! She's had to work triple time to finish since she started so late in the year.
Jordan earned his Arrow of Light on the 25th. We were really proud of him. He has worked hard to get it all done and he’s learned so much. I really hope he sticks with Scouting. Jordan also had an exciting trip this month. His 5th grade class went on a trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to see the ‘sites’ like the Liberty Bell, Constitution hall, and so forth. I let him take my camera so he could ‘capture’ the moment. He came home with a lot of little photos and videos of his friends on the tour bus they took! (He did manage to get a few of the sites too!)
We also picked up our Six Flags Season passes again. Here’s to hoping I can get the kids to try out some of bigger rides! May has been filled with soccer too. Between games and practices it has been one crazy run. Both kids have really improved this season and they have been enjoying it. I'm glad they are but it has been really insane for me. We've had practices Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with Scouts on Tuesday and Wednesday as well, Piano on Thursday and Friday and soccer games on Saturday and Sunday. Needless to say, I'll be glad when it calms some.May was, all in all, a great month. Looking forward to summer.
